"If we lose tomorrow, we'll be singing the song - don't you worry about that."
~~ E. Magpie
That was Eddie in the Subiaco press-box last Friday night during the Fremantle v StKilda match. He was talking up the prospect of Collingwood losing to Adelaide on Saturday, but winning an extra draft pick. What to make of such a flippant remark? Well, apart from the obvious - not quite the done thing to boast about dropping games - it is perhaps why he has given only cursory support to Nine stablemate, Tony Jones, after Jones' massive beat-up of The Umpire Strikes Back.
"It was probably ill advised if anything else, but I hope everybody now just takes a deep breath and if somebody made a remark well say it, and let's not hang them for it, but you know, just remember that it's - it was a pretty public area, members of the public have heard that and that's what you know, where Tony's in his rights to report the report."
It will be interesting to watch Eddie's reaction if his tanking comments are reported in the press. No doubt he will make a distiction between pretty public areas and the Subi press box. But you can't have your cakewalk and eat it, too.
So how do you get to hear whats going on in the Subi press box?

They did the same thing to secure Josh Fraser.
Eddie denied it, of course.
By the way, rules is rules, right? It was either Mick Malthouse at a press conference or Steve Waugh during the '99 world cup (or both?) who got accused of manipulating some rule to their advantage and he tersely shot back, "it's the bloody rules don't blame me for using them to my advantage lobby to change the bloody rules instead of whinging to me you bloody idiots" kind of thing.
So if it's a fight for the "glory" of coming 12th instead of 15th or something… I can't understand why we don't see a whole heap more tanking in the last two or three rounds.
And what if winning or losing meant the chance of getting the standout recruit that everyone was talking about? You'd be freakin' mad not to tank a game or two. Whouldn't you?
Good to see sportsmanship is still alive in some respects, I suppose. And interesting to note who lacks it!

And hasn't Josh Fraser worked out for them.

"And hasn't Josh Fraser worked out for them."
Ken Oath!
That's what makes it xxtra funny!!!
But you can't deny the fact that he was the standout recruit that everyone was talking about, and that the Pies tanked a few games to get him.

Eddie can get all the first drafts he likes, but if they make a mistake and pick a dud, or don't make the most of a good 'un when they get it, then they'll still be Collingwood - the biggest blowhards in the history of the comp and relative to their mouthing off, the most underperformed.

Love it when all the "deep down I wish I was a Collingwood supporter" brigade come out.
Wannabees all of you.

I'm sure that everyone who works at a VD clinic wishes, deep down, that they had the clap.

"If we lose tomorrow", you've been thinking about the 4th test then ?

Yorkshire Soul,
Give us a little credit ... 3 days, at least :-(

The way we are going it could rain for two days and we'd still lose in three. Fuck!
"Love it when all the "deep down I wish I was a Collingwood supporter" brigade come out."
In your dreams, Monsieur Mardi Gras.
