Michael Stevens, stick your head in a bin! You're talking rubbish:
[Brent] Le Cras, at centre half-back, had the better of former Saint and Eagle David Sierakowski and won the Simpson Medal.
The Simpson Medal honour board contains famous names.
Polly Farmer (1959), Barry Cable (1966-67-68), Maurice Rioli (1980-81), Brian Taylor (1985), Ben Allan (1989), Dale Kickett (1991, 1993) and Todd Ridley (1996) have won it.
There is nothing actually wrong with the list, all those players did win the Simpson Medal.
However, in the context of Stevens' comments, it's a stupid list. Not all those players were "famous names", and one in particular is virtually unknown outside of WA .
On the famous side, Polly Farmer, Barry Cable and Maurice Rioli were stars. Ben Allen, as a best and fairest in a premiership year -- the Angry Anderson Batmobile Grand final in 1991 -- was an excellent player.
On the flop side, Dale Kickett was a five club journeyman most famous for his role in a massive Subi Oval punch up with the Eagles. Todd Ridley was a scrubber most famous for being involved in the trade that sent Matthew Lloyd to Essendon instead of Fremantle. And where's Mark Zanotti, Ryan Turnbull and David Hynes? Or Peter Thorne. He played for the Dees.
But Brian Taylor?
I know Brian Taylor was a fine player for Richmond and Collingwood, a hundred goal kicker (exactly) in 1986 and now a popular and high profile commentator on MMM and Channel Nine.
But therein lies the hint. If Stevens was a footy expert, and not a stenographer, he would have known Simpson Medal Brian Taylor was not big bustling "BT" Brian Taylor, but willow the wisp Subiaco back pocket Brian Taylor.
Ooby Dooby.
Le Cras will make it big time. Should have stayed out West though.. He has packed on about 10 k's of muscle recently.

I see he was fishing up north. That means he's probably from Geraldton. Which has always been linked to East Freo.
So, my question is...
Is he related to Peter Le Cras who played in the 1979 premiership team?

I answered my own question....

"Le Cras and his father Peter, a premiership player with East Fremantle in 1979..."

Yep, although Le Cras the junior played for West Perth.

This has nothing to do with Le Cras, it's just me grabbing a window of opportunity to tell you Tone, that the Eags are coming to get your lil' ol' Dees this fridy nite.
Hoo boy, I can't wait.
I hope the cameras keep an eye on that Phil Read, he's pretty dirty and I bet he tries to beat up on Benny (the only one who hasn't cut his hair, mustn't spoil one's good looks eh?) when no-one's looking.
I shouldn't really say that about Phil, bad form to criticise a Gnowangerup boy.

Do they still have zoning in WA, Gaz. Or local drafting?
I'll be there, Os. And they are little Dees aren't they. Especially compared to your giant Eags. Hmmm, there's something odd in the WA water.
PS: I expect the Toasters to win the flag.

Gareth will know the detail for sure ... I looked at the WAFL homepage and couldn't find anything on country zones.
I know Claremont has down this way (Denmark - Albany), Yobboyung sends to West Perth (Cardies, Garlic Munchers, Falcons, whatever they call themselves this year), the Mighty Maroons have Kalgoorlie, East Freo have up Geraldton way, Perth has out around the Avon - Central Midlands, Swan Districts has Bumbury, Peel has Mandurah, hmmmm hmmmm, make like an Ent, don't know the rest.
Pathetic effort os.
I know what you're up to TT, you're trying to do that mockers thing again. I feel more comfortable when you just hate the Eags, all manly like. I don't think they're hard enough yet, Saint Woosh thinks within 3 years.

Yeah, I remember those zones from the old days. When I played for Great Northern at Westfarmers in 1987, our jumpers were East Freo jumpers.
And you saw right through me on the moz. I do my best work when I'm slippin' in a sly one.

The West weans, grows and develops these footie stars, they gow up and smell the dollar bills and the bright lights...and head East...Dunno why? Why are we such a breeding ground for Athletic talent Tone?

Good work by the Eags last night, Brett. Go. Ro. Bo.

Where were the supporters? Shopping? Drinking?
I see that Danny Kerr was cited for a "late & high" challenge on Wheatley. Never... it was only late.
We've at least got a young star for the future in Paul Johnson. Yes, we were beaten fair and square.
Posted by: Brett Pee | 02/29/2004 at 03:02 AM
Kerr's gone for several weeks and Johnson looks the goods. Big lump of a lad.
Posted by: Tony.T | 02/29/2004 at 02:29 PM
Yeah...in fact he looks a dead ringer for me.But he's fitter, and quicker, and just BETTER!
Posted by: Brett Pee | 02/29/2004 at 10:44 PM
You need to do to Subi with a banner pointing yourself out. Or maybe gram one of those "Messages on Hold" foam gloves and wear it backwards.

Well, it's difficult to miss people like me and Johnson..well he's 100kg to my silly 98, But i've got 2 inches over him! ( in height that is )
