Not sure I'd want him in my side, or even the opposition side, but anyone who calls out Warne for being a turkey is ok by me. The feud with Stokes IS lots of fun, too - and I'm sure even Stokes would admit that it's far from one-sided. Samuels is a nutter and nutters can be entertaining. If he acted like that and was Australian I'd cringe everytime he came on the tv, mind you.
Tony Tea commented on 'WORLD T20'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341cb34453ef01b7c82dd13f970b2016-04-04T00:01:25Z2016-06-13T10:10:18ZTony TeaI was hoping the Windiez would win because I can't stand it when Poms win. I still gave England half a chance, even after the second one, but..... wow.

Marlon Samuels lost his shit when the fourth one went over the rope. It was hard to tell from the coverage, but he looked like he pretty much had to be restrained by his team-mates, or he would have done himself or someone else an injury. There was a delay after the second six and the umpires got involved, too - I think he must have said something to Stokes. Not the best behaviour when a guy is playing out his worst nightmare, but he's clearly a nutcase so no surprises there, really. Stokes and Samuels haaaaaaaate each other, and that sort of thing is always fun. Hope we get to see them play each other soon.
Carrot commented on 'WORLD T20'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341cb34453ef01b8d1b77ba2970c2016-04-01T21:11:50Z2016-06-13T10:10:18ZCarrothttp://www.scottwellstead.comKohli is pretty much exhibit #1 as to why I I hate the Injuns even more than usual at the...
Kohli is pretty much exhibit #1 as to why I I hate the Injuns even more than usual at the moment. He's clearly class with the bat, but he's got to be the most dislikeable man in world cricket. He's symbolic of the latter-day Indian hypocrisy of players, support and press alike where they justify any sort of schoolyard behaviour by saying something ridiculous like "b,b,but Australians!!!!" Because it is all our fault, after all. There's nothing wrong with having a bit of mongrel about you, but the send-offs and the carry-on and the getting in people's faces thing is just first-class dickheadery. The hipster beard and the Bollywood good looks don't help, either.

I'm in WA at the moment. Flew in through Dubai, Jesus what a shithole. Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye and Ashton Agar where on the Dubai-Perth leg. Jeez, they're big fellas! Even Agar. Looking at them I realise why I was never going to be any good at sport. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to dominate in this form of the game like we do in the others - conditions, fitness, schedules allowing, etc etc. There seems to be a pretty regular pattern - we bowl and field well for the most part and we're good at the top of the order, but then we fall away in the middle which either results in tense wins or tense losses from dominant positions. It could be a balance issue. We've been experimenting with as many as four openers in the same side - Warner, Watson, Finch, Khawaja - and when it works it's great, but when it doesn't - well.
Two moments stuck out for me though - one from each side. De Kock's stumping of Butler, and Joe Root holing out on the boundary, from a full toss that he thought might be over waist-high.
Tony, not sure if you caught my Facebook post, but yep, I'm well and truly on board. Not a soccer fan, so when I checked their Wikipedia page.... Wow. For a club that's been in the top 2 divisions their entire history bar 1 season, I was amazed by their complete lack of major success in over 120 season of English footy. And no, the League Cup doesn't count. It's a poor man's kick and giggle NAB Cup that was introduced in the 1960s for political reasons. As far as Europe goes, I think they've only qualified for one fixture – which they lost.

Is everyone on the Leicester City band wagon? It's fairy tale stuff. The last round went perfectly for them with a win, while the 2nd vs. 3rd clash finished in a draw, with main rivals Tottenham and Arsenal only getting 1 point each.

Using the old parlance of 1st division, 2nd division, 3rd division etc....
* Founded in 1884, Leicester City have never won a 1st division title.
* They came 2nd once, in the 1928-29 season.
* They were wallowing in 3rd division only 7 years ago.
* About 3 months ago, late bloomer and unlikely hero James Vardy broke a league record when he scored in his 11th consecutive match.

The West Indies are a really good side, you know. We always think of them as the sort of "sick man" of cricket, but in shorter formats they can be dynamite. They're obviously still producing players, too. It could be a question of perception and priorities - I remember in the nineties India went through long periods of not playing Tests at all on account of prioritising one-day cricket hugely. With our Test cricket bias at the AGB and in Australia in general we see them as being a perennial joke and/or embarassment, but I wonder whether they're seen that way in the Caribbean, and whether the average punter pretty much ignores Tests now.
Carrot commented on 'WORLD T20'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341cb34453ef01bb08c9a8bd970d2016-03-16T14:51:20Z2016-03-16T14:51:20ZCarrothttp://www.scottwellstead.comIt would be an extraordinary achievement. I wonder if there will be Moneyball-esque implications following their success moving forward, or whether it's just a perfect storm of the right people in the right place at the right time - and as always in football, for the right price. I do have slightly mixed feelings about it all given that It would have been great for Arsenal to actually win something this year, and prove that you can be a big club that wings trophies without being run by some oil-baron dickhead.

I have noticed that I revert back to my childhood when watching T20 cricket. When I was ten I had zero interest in watching the opposition, or a side I didn't like, bat. I've got England vs West indies ticking away on my iPad at the moment and will only start actually watching when the Windies start their chase.
