**Something to do with a sweetener for a massive tender for some fighter jets - apparently arms deals and foreign aid are often intertwined. Who knew?

**Something to do with poor Indians ACTUALLY needing the dosh, and butt-hurt Indian politicians playing silly international games with their fellow citizens' wellbeing.
Tony commented on 'J.
India tells Britain: We don't want your aid According to a leaked memo, the foreign minister, Nirupama Rao, proposed “not to avail [of] any further DFID [British] assistance with effect from 1st April 2011,” because of the “negative publicity of Indian poverty promoted by DFID”. But officials at DFID, Britain’s Department for International Development, told the Indians that cancelling the programme would cause “grave political embarrassment” to Britain, according to sources in Delhi. Further embarressment ensues. Emma Boon, campaign director of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “It is incredible that ministers have defended the aid we send to India, insisting it is vital, when now we learn that even the Indian government doesn’t want it.”
It seems to me in their haste to adopt all things western they also picked up our attitude, which is a pity, 10-15 years ago all the Indians I can remember had a cheery, eager-to-please disposition. Now 90% of them that I encounter seem to have a sullen arrogance about them - I don't expect them to kiss my arse simply because they are visitors or migrants to my country of birth but the simple courtesy that seems to be freely extended to their countrymen is strangely absent when they have to interact with me.

Young, mobile, educated, wealthy, prosperous, smart Indian citizens have just gone KAPOW! on the world scene within a generation. And it just BURNS THEIR ASSES when they read the history books. And then it manifests itself in annoying ways like refusing to adopt the referral system because it is an English idea embraced by Australia [a paraphrased comment from an Indian journalist]. Or the petulant little outburst you cite, TKYC.

That, and their whole caste system thang and their obsession with skin shade [I am a long time lurker of the Sepia Mutiny blog, read that for a few months and get back to me] and then they immigrate to a white country and.... yeah, whatever.

They just seem to have issues that aren't there, and it's all good, nobody hates ya. Chill the fark out and pass me another barrel of beer.
@TKYC commented on 'J. This one time, at Biz school, an Indian overseas student got all ranty. I asked him to calm down and relax.
Response: "Dont shut me up... We had centuries of rule from the British... now its our time!"
Me: "yeah sure pal... but this isn't England, and your time is up. We are all in the same boat, you get no special treatment because of history".
Big Ramifications commented on 'J.
Crikey. I was waiting for the racism card at the end, there.

When did Indians suddenly become so butt-hurt? Whinging. Bloody. Hypocrites. Do they ever shut up? I'm sure they weren't like this 10 years ago. What has happened in their culture and mass media that has caused this sudden zeitgeist of victimhood and being wronged?

The Boy Who Cried Wolf. My eyes just glaze over now, every time I read or hear an Indian complaining.
