Bloody hell Tone - where did you dig this up from? Yes - Youtube, I know, but even for you it's pretty obscure!
It's shit, of course. Opera rarely translates well to the small screen anyway - but close-ups of bored-looking 1970s Swedish faces is no way to add interest to an overture. And what's with the fascination with the little girl? Insert Roman Polanski joke here.... And yes, the dubbing is VERY amusing.
The word that springs to mind through all of this is "why?"
The following has been doing the rounds (again) with some of my singing mates recently. Bloody funny.
I don't think they are supposed to be bored faces. I think they are supposed to be expectant faces that can't wait for the overture to finish and the första akten to start.
Just watched your tube. (Actually, one of the others, since your one was down.) I cringed so hard I could barely watch it. Dragana Jugovic officially has one thing going for her: I'd never heard of her before - I have now. Is she still working, or is she in some sort of rehab? You know, "taking a break to recharge he batteries." How many punters have made jokes about Drugana and Drugovic?
Had a quick peek at the Branagh version. Funny translation, but I like what he does with the monster and the grenade.
I know what you mean about the Jugovic clip - it's actually funnier when you're not watching the images.
It seems that she is still working, and still moderately active. Not that I've heard that the houses in Algeria, Egypt and Syria are that prestigious! Teatro Massimo and Teatro Real are though, so there must be something going for her when she's not off her face. I wonder what of damage having that sort of material posted on Youtube has done, though.
2:48 a young Mrs Barack Obama
4:10 a young Don Chip
4:13 a young hippy Mark Webber [needed more WOOO! WOOO! AARRGH! WOOOOOOO!]
6:02 a young hippy Owen Wilson
6:52 a young Sir Allen Stanford
7:35 Pithecanthropus Erectus
Pretty sure I spotted Klaus Barbie in there, too.
Needed more religious headgear. Needed more money shots. At least one, that's all I ask.
Branagh Goes Forth.
Nyuk.
Nyuk.
"Ohhhhh, BOY! That's as good as it gets."

A tutor who tutored the flute
Tried to tutor two tooters to toot.
Said the two to the tutor,
'Is it harder to toot, or
To tutor two tooters to toot?'
Thank you. I won't be here all night.

Saw it here, Carrot.

Trollflöjten.
Did you look at the other version? The one where Kenneth Branagh has Flute Meet Trench?
