The UK has a population of almost 61 million, and each year they drop 855,000 phones down the torlet. That's 1 phone dunked for every 71 people, or most probably, one person doing it over and over.
Brits Drop 850,000 Phones Down the Toilet - Each Year
If you've ever found yourself trying to fish your mobile out of the toilet, you're not alone. A staggering 855,000 handsets are flushed away every year in the UK - that's roughly £342 million we're 'loo'sing. Research by SimplySwitch, the price comparison and switching service, found 4.5m handsets are lost or damaged every year.
Common catastrophes include leaving mobiles in the pub (810,000 handsets) in a taxi (315,000) or on a bus (225,000). More bizarrely, dogs chewed their way through 58,500 handsets last year and 116,000 went through a spin cycle with the dirty laundry.

Because they don't take phone out of back pocket BEFORE sitting?
and don't lean over the side of the boat with your phone in your shirt pocket either .... Port Phillip Bay must be so full of mobiles they cause the rising sea level I'm sure.

I was thinking the shirt pocket angle must be a contributing factor in the torlet, too, B. The bastard things are a monty to slip out of the top pocket.

And to think my teachers never believed me when I said the dog ate it.

I think I can shed some light on the issue. My friend is probably responsible for a fair few; when he gets very drunk, he tends to throw his phone in a nearby pond 'to see if it can swim'. So far, nothing.
