Yeah OK. I still think you're a prick though. But you are a funny prick. OK, a funny genius prick. Well yes a funny genius prick who'd be very handy coming in at number three. And driving us to the party that night.

Hmm, just unseamed myself from the nave to the chops there while showing off my boredsword action didn't I? You can see why I'm not working as a Saxon HTML coder.

Take two.

I think just being a <strike>pheasant</strike> peasant back them was wasn't much fun anyway. Especially when Norman nobles sallied out on houseback with their hounds and started bellowing "Serf's up!"

And being a court jester wasn't all bells and whistles either. More than one got topped for pushing court gossip a little too far in between the capering, belching and farting.

And can I just put in here an unsolicted testimonal for George Shipway who wrote some of the best novels I've ever read about the whole Roman-Anglo-Saxon-Norman times. Beautifully researched, utterly unsentimental yet with surprising empathy, major sex, violence and witchcraft yet never gratitious with it and all rendered in clear sturdy and often elegant prose.

Think Henry Treece for grown ups or a bloodier George McDonald Frazer among the wattle daubers. This guy is a lost gem, especially if yer into medieval and ancient Rome stuff. I warn all you quivering kerns and gallowglasses here though that he's strong stuff.
Nabakov commented on 'STRAIGHT TALKING'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341cb34453ef00d834b05fd653ef2006-09-12T14:58:58Z2007-08-18T02:38:30ZNabakovI think just being a pheasant peasant back them was wasn't much fun anyway.
