WA: the nation's strike capital*
"DAYS lost because of industrial action in the booming West Australian economy have jumped to more than double the national average, with unions striking over issues such as poor TV reception and a construction site management refusing to fly the Eureka flag."
Western Australia has always been a very strikey place; not just lately.
For five years (1980 to 1985) I worked at a mine up in The Pilbara; Robe River, to be precise.
We once went on strike insisting Neapolitan icecream be included in out demands. At the meeting to ratify the action I was roundly chastised. "We should call it our tub of claims," I'd proposed.**
* Ooooooooo! Western Australia is a state and not capital of anything; Perth is the capital. I hate it when they do that.
** There were no seconders.

That's because Neapolitan is a wusses ice-cream. Real men eat rum and raisin.

I'm a "Loaded" Drumstick kind of guy, Os, and never really been a big fan of vanila, strawberry OR chocolate.
I blame the 'Dodgers. Half the workforce was from Manchester, Liverpool or Yorkshire.
Rum & Raisin is awful, by the way. Only Eagles fans would eat it.

No Tony, Eagles fans would only eat it if it were Chardonnay flavoured.

Solidarity three flavour?

Our freezer was always lilke that Simpsons bit. omer looks through several tubs of nepolitana, all with the chocolate gone and the strawberry and vanilla still there "Marge! We need more ice cream!"

Washed down with can-ape-eees, of course, John.
Only in the freezer, Boynty. Only in the freezer. Take it out and you've got Melty Three Flavour.
Guess what, Amanda? Ever since yesterday I've been racking the old brain-box wondering what sort of ice-cream we had as kiddies, and you know something? I can't bloody remember. I just can't bloody remember!

Am I the only person who leaves the chocolate and eats the other two flavors of Neapolitan?
Posted by: Adam 1.0 | 24 February 2005 at 11:42
Yes. Well, no. Julian Knight does it too.

I didn't see you complaining about strikes when we got all those holidays in Perth.
Remmber September 81?

Who's complaining?
Posted by: Tony.T | 24 February 2005 at 13:21
Where are all these bloody strikes ? Never one around when you want one. personally, i detest them, prefer to be working hard making WA economy strongest in the country. Rum & raisin ? Prefer it without the raisins. Choccie mint chip is tops, eat plenty of it myself. Not that you would know from my figure.
There are many areas with VERY dodgy tv reception out here. What are we, in the middle of nowhere or summat ?

Hell, when I lived there, bad reception was considered a blessing. It was better than no reception.
And made me look good on Geraldton basketball coverage.
Posted by: Tony.T | 25 February 2005 at 11:17
Basketball ? Pah ! Pah ! Silly game, played by blokes even taller than myself !!
Posted by: Brett Pee | 26 February 2005 at 05:10
Used to love it; now I barely acknowledge it's existance.
Posted by: Tony.T | 26 February 2005 at 12:23
Everyone asks me if i play basketball but i've never liked it. Too bloody boring in a confined space- end to end scoring and totally monotonous. Now, if i had been born in a colder climate, Ice Hockey would have appealed to me and that's a yank pastime is it not ? Tell a lie, the FIGHTS appeal to me- the actual hockey sometimes gets in the way of the mass brawls. But i draw the line over clobbering a bloke with a stick.

Is that fair dinkum about the ice cream strike? Everyone likes that story but if it is true, exactly when, exactly where, did it happen?

Read the post, Bradon.
