When I first heard Post To Wire from Portland's Richmond Fontaine, my initial response was that it was OK, nothing spectacular, but not bad. Well, I just played it again, and as is so often the case after a few listens, my response had changed up to; "Well, that really does go very nicely, indeed."
Oddly, as far as I can spot anywhere around the traps, there's the occasional nod to Ryan Adams, but no direct mention of Whiskytown's Strangers Almanac. A very obvious influence, if you ask me.
I reckon this review sums it up best.
Richmond Fontaine - Post to Wire
Upon first listen, Richmond Fontaine's Post to Wire can seem a bit disjointed, bouncing erratically from style to style, intertwining Uncle Tupelo-esqe acid-country with twangy ballads, rootsy pop and even a number of strange, out-of-place, spoken word "postcard" readings. I was initially apprehensive about the perceived disarray, but with continued listening the varying styles and viewpoints of this Portland based outfit come together gloriously to create a heck of an album.
