Can't agree, Adam. No matter whether you like it or not, or agree with what he writes, or even actively dislike him, to say Blair's blog is not in the top couple Aussie ones is just being silly. Or shit-stirring. From what I read most bloggers that bag him are just jealous. Or trying to attract attention.
I'll certainly be voting for it as "Best Overall".
Oh, I agree, the whole thing's a wank. I'll vote for Blair as the best, a few others and probably me twenty five times.
I also agree the political blog scene is total balls. Everyone thinks they have the answers, but most of it's boring rubbish. Either they take themselves way too seriously or they serve up hideously unfunny "satire".
As for the ranters, well, they're just grumpy wankers having a whinge who think they're being clever.
Mostly though, and this is worse among the blogs that think they have the answers, it's just barely disguised barracking.
Only a few are worthwhile.
It's one of the reasons I virually never post on politics anymore. The other was I realised I also write rubbish.
The thing is, though, you mightn't like what Blair has to say, but he's got a better grasp on the blog format than most and what's more, he's a bloody good writer.
Blair is very very good at what he does and certainly knows one end of a one-liner from the other. Whether that's good or not is a matter of taste. Judging by his prominence, he certainly seems to fill a market need.
I hang around political blogs 'cos I like a bit of argy-bargy and you generally find the best general purpose fights there (and, yes I know, the worst too.)
C'mon, Adam, I was taking the piss. I'm unlikely to vote for anyone.
Nab, I reckon you're right about the one-liners, but I maintain Blair has a good handle on the blog concept. Tight and well edited. No waffle. I suppose as a newshound he understands people can't spend hours each day reading blogs and as a result delivers cleanly distilled news items in an easily readable manner.
Thanks, SM. I'll look forward to receiving that Fiat. I'll take a Four Wheel Drive, if possible.
Whenever dealing with sea-skimming anti-ship missiles or parking officers, I tend to favour the Phalanx Close-In Weapon System, delivering 3000 depleted uranium rounds per minute from a 20mm M61A1 Vulcan 6-barrelled cannon. I've also heard good things about Metal Storm.
But when out trying to lead a pigeon and plink it in the head at 20 yards, I find a Remington 40X, a Marlin 25 or a Ruger Whateverthefuckmodelitis .22 offers a crisp solution to the issue that's just taken wing.
I nominated BackPages for Best Humorous Australian Blog because getting predictions constantly wrong keeps people "sane" according to another nomination.
Got you there. Clever, no?

Ha! TimT is clever than you.
Posted by: DJ | 17 December 2004 at 16:55
He is not. But we're both cleverer than you.
Posted by: Tony.T | 17 December 2004 at 17:06
It's clearly a trick question. There is no such thing as a 'better' Tim Blair blog.

The whole thing bores me to tears. Then there's the mutant comment box wars that you can't even blame on the author...
Probably a reflection of the fact that I don't give a monkeys about political blogs anymore. It'll piss the voting in without me anyway I'm sure.

Does anyone have any opinion on Tim's attack doberman, Andrea Harris?
Posted by: Big Ramifications | 18 December 2004 at 14:49
I never say anything bad about Andrea. She'd track me down and eat my brains.
Posted by: Tony.T | 18 December 2004 at 16:13
I'm voting once - and certainly not for myself.

You're sounding like Mike Jericho, Nab.
Gary, when I saw that I had a chuckle, so you must be right.
