There's been a lot of waffle talked, and plenty of blame shifting, but there doesn't seem to be much talk of a class action - yet.
Surely though, if there's any substance to this latest report all relevant speeding fines will eventually have to be refunded and points returned....
The Western Ring Road speed cameras at the centre of the latest Victorian Government fines fiasco could have been producing erroneous readings since February, according to VicRoads. The revelation throws doubt on any speeding fine based on a reading from these cameras. VicRoads could not say how long the fault had been occurring, but confirmed the cameras were switched on in February.
I don't see how any of the fines issued by those cameras can be valid.
However, we're not hearing much from the the likes of Slater & Gordon and Maurice Blackburn Cashman. Were Kennett still in power these labour law firms would be all over this like shit on a blanket. Could it be they can't act because the State Government has them on retainer and they're making a packet already?
And they're still trying to snow us....
The regional manager of VicRoads Metro North West Region, Bruce Gidley, said the problem with the Western Ring Road cameras had been narrowed down to either the measuring device - strips in the tarmac that register a vehicle's speed - or the software that monitored them. The cameras themselves were working well, he said.
Doesn't wash, Bruce. That's like me saying my car's engine works beautifully but the steering wheel only turns left.
And Andre's gone missing again....
George Svigos, press secretary for Victorian Police Minister Andre Haermeyer, said it was his understanding that the cameras were still under warranty....VicRoads has had trouble contacting Poltech in recent weeks as the company veered into voluntary administration.
So what! The system's still buggered. And what's a warranty worth with the company virtually out of business?
Funny - ha ha - picture.
