Apparently Melbourne's Alfred Hospital is full of sick people....
The Alfred hospital has restricted access to four of its wards because of an outbreak of gastroenteritis among patients and staff.Up to 31 people yesterday remained confined to the affected wards, 16 of them hospital employees. Only three people were still displaying symptoms of the disease last night.
The Alfred's head of microbiology and infectious disease, Monash University associate professor Denis Spelman, said the symptoms of gastroenteritis usually ran for no more than two days.
"Some, once their symptoms have settled, will be discharged," he said.
He said staff working on the affected wards had been required to wear gowns and gloves and to wash their hands after dealing with each patient. "We also recommend that only immediate family members be allowed to visit, and that perhaps children not visit while the symptoms are still present," Professor Spelman said.
He said gastroenteritis was passed from hand to mouth, often by eating with unwashed hands.

Kind of forgivable if he was sick when he went in. Pretty grim otherwise.
