"To be honest I'm not concerned about England's team," he said.

"I'm really excited about where we sit as a team. I haven't looked at England at all. I haven't watched a ball they have bowled on this tour so far."

From a Malcolm Knox article in 2010:

In September I interviewed Michael Clarke, the Australia vice-captain, and asked him what he had learnt from watching England play South Africa.

"I didn't watch it at all," he said. "We're thinking about what we do, not what they do."

I reckon the more interesting question is not how good a captain Clarke is, but how good Taylor and Waugh were given they both had the luxury of always being able to throw the ball to McGrath and Warne.
gillysgone commented on 'HE'S A GOOD GUY, BUTT'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d8341cb34453ef019b00acd98d970d2013-11-05T03:39:56Z2013-11-10T00:32:08ZgillysgoneNo McGrath, no bowl first, thats easy. Ponting lost occasionally when he ought not to. But as we've said many times here, you are only as good as your cattle.

Also, bowling first wasn't Ponting's biggest mistake at Edgbaston. It was relying on Lee when the scoring rate was out of control. 2005 was one long pattern of aggression being used against us, and it was a slow lesson; but then, late-Ponting was pilloried by everyone and never seemed to know what he ought to do, so not much better. He wouldn't have bowled in Melbourne though, given he was still claiming he did the right thing batting first on an English-green-tops only 6 months prior.
