I played a fuck-ton of indoor cricket back in the day. Five games a week wouldn't be unusual.

About 30% of the time I was 'keeper. I'm really surprised I never copped a good facial injury in my 6-7 year career.

Was it Dyer the Aussie 'keeper who copped a ripper to the schnoz about 25 years ago?

M. Patard

The worst cricket injury I've ever witnessed was that hottie who got smashed in the face by Dirk Wellham with his angry bat (he slapped her hard with it), taking half the picket fence top off with it on the way through to her jaw.

M. Patard

And I can tell ya, I've watched a fuck-ton of cricket in my time.

Oy!

Professor Rosseforp

I suppose others have been too tasteful to mention that when Boucher recovers, he will be ideally suited for umpiring?
Worst injury I remember (in a not very long career) was a friend who thought he would adjust his metal protector AFTER the next delivery -- from the fastest bowler in the opposition team. Suffice it to say that he should have adjusted BEFORE the delivery.

In the Melbourne version of The Footy Show [ie. AFL] there was an old bird in the studio audience who used to shout out "C'mon Kouta!" whenever Carlton was mentioned. One and the same.

She was so infectious that eventually Eddie McGuire, Sam Newman et al started yelling questions back to her on camera. She even had a few guest spots on the panel towards the end.

I tried hard to write her off as a dimwitted nuff-nuff [which she was, have no doubts] but she seemed like such a kind hearted lady. I dunno, I guess Australia needs 400 more of her type rather than 400 swarthy sea-fearing queue jumpers. 'Mrite Pat, 'mrite?!!

top sentence in quotes/italics dammit, sorry

New tagline for the AGB: "a fuck-ton of cricket."

Spent some time just then trying to find mention of it with not even a sniff. If it wasn't him then it was Rixon or Maclean or Wright or Phillips or Zoehrer, but no luck there either.

Anyone? Anyone?

I did find this mawvelous bit of reading. England use four wicket keepers in one Test match. Last sentence = laughs.

H. G. Nelson

The whole thing was a joke! A hastily cobbled-together sham!

Best and most durable black eye I ever got was from cricket. I was batting, though not keeping. My eyelid and the area of the brow went blood red within a couple of hours. It was beautiful to see as it then turned black and then into a spectacular sunset over the ensuing week.

Tony

My only sport stitches are in my chin courtesy of a top edged pull shot. My worst bruise is a corky courtesy of a fast in-swinger into my inner thigh; lasted weeks.

Lou

I don't dignify my slogging by naming it by type of shot played. That would be unethical.

Aussie wicketkeeper who was injured with a blow to the face was, I think, John Maclean. Cricinfo says of his successor, Kevin Wright* "Wright replaced John Maclean for the last two Tests of the disastrous 1978-79 Ashes series" -- I think this was because of the accident.
Glasgow Herald Jan 5 1979 confirms that Maclean required six stitches** above his left eye after being hit by a ball from Hurst during a net practice ; Brearley had suffered a similar injury earlier in the tour.

* will Australia ever field another cricketer called Kevin? I would even accept a Kelvin as a near-substitute, but there are very few of this species left.
** possible Scottish humour referring to the number of rows of stitches in a standard cricket ball?

That happened in the Melbourne Grammar nets. I know, because I was standing behind the nets when it happened. Also, the bowler was Jonathan Agnew, who was out here on a Whitbread Scholarship.

Professor Rosseforp

Wow! Better to be standing behind the nets than in the nets at a time like that!
