The Don has Risen

so Creams is captain.

I would have liked Tait in the test team. I might actually watch this crap to look at Pattinson. I'm told he is good

Nesta

SEN cut that quote short. What he actually said was, "All we have to do is execute Tim Nielsen."

Hangover Black

The Huss getting a rest? Mitch not getting a rest?

Get Mitch to spend the next month with DKL getting a repeatable action that allows him to swing a cricket ball.

I don't care if his speed drops back to 135. Steyn bowled a lot of balls under 135, but was dangerous because be moves the bloody thing.

Gonna be great to see Slot back in action.......or maybe not.

Can't argue with the selectors giving Paine the v.c.

Hangover Black

Michael Clarke has moved up in my estimations (from an admittedly low base). Unless he was actually pushed (kicking and screaming) from the T20 side, at least he's shown a level of self-awareness that I hadn't thought within him.

Tony

Quushed: "Quit, but was really pushed."

At least someone has realised that there is no nurd time in T20. There's no need to consolidate or pace an innings. You just go for it. Clarke does not have that gear.

And it should benefit his Test batting.

Tony

I just realised I called two posts The Bashes. Better adjust the other one to better reflect its Big Bashness.

The Don has Risen

your bashfull

Cameron

Finch will fill they key role of ball tamperer.

Tony

We've needed a ball tamperer for years. When in Rome, don't be a Christian.

Hangover Black

How is Dan Christian going this year anyway?

The Don has Risen

you can't hold a candle to Christian.

I'm told he hasn't got a prayer

Tony

Is Christian going alright this season?

Matt

Who was the last Victorian to be formally appointed (as opposed to filling in) as captain of a national cricket team? Yallop?

Tony

The Test list since 1960: Yallop was the last Vic.

The ODI list since 1970: Was Warne "appointed"?

The Don has Risen

no he was texted

Hangover Black

Looking at the last match he played, it's strange he wasn't the first bloke the selectors picked:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/461030.html

4 overs for 40, and a 3 ball duck.

Hangover Black

Dan Christian, that is.

The Don has Risen

Russ

A thought just occurred to me... what is the first rule of political media manipulation?

Always bury bad news.

The promos for the Bashes have Watto and Pies on them, someone commented on this the other week, that you'd expect it to be Clarke. I think the decision to drop Clarke from the T20 was made weeks ago, they only announced it today to avoid the bad news (series loss).

Over the break a friend of mine compared CA to the Brumby government. I think that is a very apt comparison.

Lou

I don't care if he was 'nurdled' out the door, Clarke giving up 20/20 is such a good thing.

Tony

Russ, now that you mention it... that's a pretty fair observation. Bit pissed off I didn't think of it myself.

Both CA and the AFL have spinners on tap to deal with bad news. Given that the pool of spinners is small (but getting bigger at an alarming rate), it is reasonable to assume CA, the AFL and the political parties take their cues from the same bullshit peddlers.

Lou

After doing some thinking, I reckon Lemming was dropped but they allowed him spin it like this. CA loves spin look at the crap they are all coming out with. It would fit their 'model'. After all they made poor Mitchell Johnson get all confused about whether he was dropped or merely 'rested'. Like anyone is ever rested from a fecking Ashes test match.

Lemming never done anything before to lead me to think that he doesn't want to skipper the 20/20 team, and I assume later down the track, he'll want to start dipping his trotters into the IPL trough.

That will be harder for him now so I can't see why he would have so graciously retired in this manner in the real world.

Does a Lemming have trotters? I think for this case we'll have to assume that it does.

Lou

Or perhaps Lemming never did.

God, how awful and I write stuff for a living.

Hangover Black

Gotta disagree Lou.

Lemming does not go in for the IPL auction because he's too scared he won't get picked up. Or his management is good enough to foresee that he won't get picked up and have wisely advised against it.

Seen any highlights of SOS taking to the Walers? Getting some nice touch for the ODIs.

Lou

I haven't seen them but I am looking. The Warriors rise and fall on whether he scores runs in short formats.

Lemming did want to go to the IPL according to Haydos, but was asking for too much and got laughed away from it last year or the year before. Don't know how much you can believe of that though. I don't know if you can believe anything anybody connected or once connected to CA says anymore. It's a complete fog of spin and briefing for or against.

Tony

Quushed = Quit + Pushed.

Tony

Junk Yardy.

Tony

T20 Adelaide.

What. A. Wanker. Intro.

Tony

Slow start. Bring back King Nurdle Clarke.

Tony

Why is Nine interviewing Cow Corner Warner? Is there even the very remotest chance he will say something worthwhile?

Russ

Good yorker by Bresnan, I daresay we won't see one that good when Australia are bowling.

Tony

Good bowling all round from the Poms. Interesting line they bowled - full and wide outside off.

Russ

Better than short shit outside off (Tait) or in the slot outside off (Slot, naturally).

Tony

Larry and The Slot... it's 2007 again.

Vindicate

Difference between their fielding and ours: Chalk n Cheese.

m0nty

Dumb shot by Bell End. As Studsy was loping in I was wondering why they had three in the ring between gully and cover point. So Bell hits it at slow, catchable height to cover point. Oh hey, Cam White is captain... bloody hell, good field placement for once!

Russ

Nice work from SOK, bought a wicket. Couple more and we might be in this.

m0nty

O'Keefe: looks like Mark Occhilupo, bowls like Tim May.

m0nty

The Adelaide Oval looks pretty cool under lights. Always fun to have a hill for a night game.

Tony

Pies will nurdle the Poms home in the last over.

Russ

C'mon White, bring the field up, make them hit over the top when they don't want to. We won't win without wickets, and we won't get the rrr high enough at 5 an over.

m0nty

And don't bowl Slotty.

Russ

Might be a good thing Morgan plays for England, it would be embarrassing to be worse than Ireland too.

Russ

Tonight's Slotto numbers are 9, 12, 10 with the supplementary pending.

Tony

Remind me again how Morgs is playing for England.

m0nty

Good point Tony. I mean, we'd like to pick Nannes but clearly he's a Dutchman.

m0nty

Croq says Wright has "extra humpty". Hopefully that means he'll crack like an egg.

Tony

Did David Hussey just say "Typical English; they hang around these days"?

Russ

He qualified for England by living there for 4 years. Like Hick and Joyce and Khan and Kervezee (pending). England is both the single greatest cause of equality amongst cricketing nations via county cricket, and the single biggest cause of inequality via their poaching of talent from minnows.

Tony

Ban England.

m0nty

Lee's Bash numbers: 6 overs, 1/50.
Tait's Bash numbers: 8.2 overs, 1/85.

Nannes' Bash numbers: 14 overs, 4/101.
McKay's Bash numbers: 8 overs, 1 maiden, 3/45.

Russ

Morgan really throttles the splice doesn't he? He reminds me in a weird way of Andre Agassi.

Tony

Morgs chucks his innings away.

Tony

Junk Yardy for a golden.

m0nty

The Indestructible Paper Cut of Steel to the rescue!

m0nty

Mind you they'll still shit this in.

Tony

Where would we be without IPCoS? I mean, apart from fourth (or fifth) in the rankings and falling fast?

Tony

"These Aussies, they NEVER miss!"

Russ

I can't remember the last time we hit!

m0nty

Settle down Slotty, you'd think he'd won the World Cup with that carry on.

That was a no ball on the replay, just quietly.

Tony

Did JB just say "This match is being watched by 4 billion people"? Well, no. But he wanted to. Can't take the AFL out of the boy.

Tony

The Poms are doing their best to root this match, but Swann and Woakes will take them home.

Russ

Slotty has always been one for inappropriate celebrations. He was punching the pitch when India was 4 for 700 odd some years back, if I recall.

m0nty

Slotty can always be relied upon to get the opposition's run rate back into winning position.

Tony

Gee, it's unlike Slot to bowl full tosses at the death.

Russ

And 11 in a game losing penultimate over. Thanks Slot.

Russ

No pressure IPCoS but they are gonna swing for the hills, so you need to do that again.

Tony

Watto is dominating. The Poms are imploding.

Tony

The Poms are dumb-inating.

Tony

Woakes - four.

Russ

Anything that lets in a single here is actually good.

Russ

Bugger.

Tony

Was there a fieldsman back at deep mid wicket off the last ball?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Patard with a vengeance

Fuck me that Lee bowls absolute shit.

High, wide full toss loses the game.

More pain and more old timers to get punted.

Russ

Who ever said T20 can't be dramatic? Pity about the result, but it is only a friendly.

Tony

Smart move to pick Slot and Larry. Haven't the Aussie selectors seen enough T20 to know speed merchants of their ilk are cannon fodder in these matches?

Tony

Pity the batsmen had to evoke the spirit of Nurdle to bat like c**ts.

Nick

2 dropped catches off Tait and some shit fielding....and not scoring enough runs lost us the match. Not doing the basics.

Lou

Larry is ok at this format. He wasn't helped by O'Keefe still being sleepy bye bye off the first ball. After that ball, I was surprised it was so close as I knew we'd lose.

There was something nauseating watching Cow Corner block deliveries. And Dussey had no intention trying to hit. They were all on the last train to Clarkesville.

I have this rotten feeling that they now think the test team is an open market and there is possibilities for them all to have a shot at that format. So they'll try out in 20/20.

Lou

And another thing, why isn't Shaun Marsh in our 20/20 team? If they aren't going to bowl Smith, how can he possibly be a better batsman than SOS?

Lou

Slot was horrible though, wasn't he?

Can anyone in Australia bowl yorkers? Anyone? Maybe some kid in u15s in the NT?

Hangover Black

The original and best Huss was another glaring omission. Not sure that the selectors memory extends back far enough to the WC SF.

Tony

It appears the selectors have gone back to using T20 matches as trials.

Hangover Black

They haven't seen enough of Slot and Larry to have made up their minds yet?

Poms should've won that in 16 overs. Our batting was woeful aside from watto. Warner has been worked out. If it's not exactly in his zone, he can't work the ball. The number of times he was cramped for room and hit on or around his pads without being able to get the ball away was not good enough.

Tony

They were probably giving Tait & Lee a chance to re-establish themselves. Tait's been out with injury; dunno what Lee has been up to.

Russ

Slot: Playing T20 in UnZed. Hasn't helped.

Tony

Whenever I think of Lee & NZ I think of full tosses, which appears appropriate.

Tony

Right about now several thousand chickens will be doing the dickhead.

Tony

When is someone going to acknowledge that the only reason Wednesday night's match was close was because the Poms almost chucked the match away?

Tony

Excellent stat work from The Old Batsman, who has crunched the numbers that suggest Paper Cut Watson is great at hitting fours, but shouse at milking runs as he can't turn "nones" into "ones".

Watson's percentage of dot balls to deliveries faced, at 78.63%, was also far higher than any other successful batsman in the series. Strauss was nearest at 76.35%, Pietersen was, at 70.87%, the lowest. Significantly, Watto also featured in three run-outs.

While the differences between batters might not seem huge, they are significant. They seem to back up the view that Watson is not great in two areas that might really improve his game: revolving the strike and working the ball around.

Russ

Why does the mcg set off fire balls and dancing girls when Australia loses a wicket? Whose side are they on?

Tony

The hospitality shown to visiting teams by CA and/or the Aussie stadium managers is farging infuriating.

Russ

Collapsing in a heap again. Might get past the boxing day total with luck. Spinners are killing us.

Tony

Wonder if the selectors have bothered to wonder why at the Poms take the pace off the ball.

Tony

Pitch has fair bit of turn.

Tony

7/147. England ought to be able to cruise it.

Lou

Dussey's form is garbage. It is spot on with our selectors that they are planning to take out of form players to the world cup.

Tony

The selectors must have looked at Finch bat and thought to themselves "We've lucked onto something here with this picking players on form business."

Cameron

'crunched the numbers that suggest Paper Cut Watson is great at hitting fours, but shouse at milking runs as he can't turn "nones" into "ones".'

Hayden had the same problem in his early ODI's (remeber he used to open with Boony). Hard hands. I was thinking the same thing, good to see it backed up statistically.

Tony

As The Old Batsman said, if Watson can better turn the strike over in the 40s and 50s it will help him convert his starts.
